Maked Education Count heads to Stormont
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 by UCU
Northern Ireland’s MLAs are being asked to give their backing to UCU’s Make Education Count campaign.
At an event at Stormont, the UCU – supported by the Ulster Teachers Union (UTU) and the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) – is presenting statistics that detail how Northern Ireland continues to lag behind the rest of the UK when it comes to educational success.
UCU regional official Jim McKeown said: ‘The Make Education Count campaign is quite simply about equality and access. Educational profiles for Northern Ireland’s 18 political constituencies indicate that where you live in Northern Ireland affects your educational outcomes. UCU – supported by UTU and INTO – wants to work with political representatives to address these educational imbalances and inequalities at a local level.’
